Re: pricing for catolog?
Tue, May 29, 2007 - 5:47 AMhello again
sorry - only just seen this post
I suppose it depends on wether you work on an hourly rate to cover overheads (or just wing it)
and also what kind of catalogue it is (cutouts of photos, diagrams/illustrations to do, etc)
I don't see how you can do it for less than 200 ($)?
generally I work out quotes based on an hourly rate
typically I would allow 1-2 days for design (could be more if it is really involved)
and allow 1 - 2 hours per page for doing artwork
the last 16 page catalogue I did was for a friend and I charged £1,400 (about $2780)
so I can't really equate what you seem to be charging (cos I am not that expensive really)
the people I work with would have charged quite allot more
you are right though - they can be a fiddle (I would allow at least a weeks work)
don't know if that helps -
it's your own fault for living on a beach with the fishys
(I'm envious really)
best

Re: pricing for catolog?
Tue, May 29, 2007 - 7:28 PMhaha, thanks for making me smile. Work has been kicking my butt these last few days and I needed it! I actually am living in MI for the time being so the only fishies I get to see are the ones in a Sturgeon Fish Conservation brochure I just designed! Thanks for the advice. lately I have been getting the feeling that a designers lot is to be way underpayed and overworked. But I still Love it!
